Michael L. Burgoyne

Michael Burgoyne was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Armor in May 1999.

While posted to Fort Carson, CO, he served as a Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader and Cavalry Troop Executive Officer in the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment.

He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Squadron Logistics Officer in 2003 providing logistical support across 14,000 square kilometers of contested terrain in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. In 2005 Burgoyne was deployed for a second time, where he commanded C Troop, Third Squadron, Seventh U.S. Cavalry and conducted hundreds of missions across Iraq from Al Qiam to Southeast Baghdad, including the execution of the Iraqi Constitutional Referendum and the first Iraqi Parliamentary Election.

Burgoyne also served as a Troop/Company Trainer at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California where he was responsible for the teaching, training, and mentoring of deploying units in the fundamentals of combat operations and counter insurgency tactics, techniques, and procedures.

Selected as a Foreign Area Officer, Burgoyne served in various policy and security cooperation positions in the Americas including assignments as the Army Attach� in Mexico City and the Andean Ridge Desk Officer at U.S. Army South. He also served as a policy analyst in the White House, Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Burgoyne holds a B.A. from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University. He is an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Arizona�s International Security Studies program.

Albert "Jim" Marckwardt

Albert �Jim� Marckwardt was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 1999 and was assigned to Fort Carson, CO where he served as a Tank and Scout Platoon Leader. Marckwardt later moved to Fort Stewart, Georgia in 2005 deployed to Iraq as the Squadron Logistics� Officer with the 3rd Squadron, 7th U.S. Cavalry supporting missions throughout Eastern Baghdad. In March of 2006 he took command of B Troop and deployed again as part of the "surge" in 2007 where he controlled the densely populated and volatile region of Adhamiyah in the heart of Baghdad. Following command in 2008, he served as the aide-de-camp for the Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq and in the U.S. upon the division�s return home.

Marckwardt then moved to Alexandria, VA in 2009 where he served in Human Resources Command managing future officer assignments. Selected as a Foreign Area Officer, in 2011 Marckwardt spent a year in Argentina attending the Argentine Army Command and Staff College. Upon graduating, he served as the Mexico desk officer at U.S. Army North from 2012-2013. He then attended the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies and earned a Master in International Public Policy. In 2015 he moved to Honduras, where he is served for two years as the Liaison Officer at the U.S. Embassy for Joint Task Force Bravo. Marckwardt is currently serving at the Office of Secretary of Defense for Policy as the Colombia Country Director.
